At just a 15 minute bike ride from the city center of Utrecht, camping Fort aan de Klop offers 25 plots for tents on the earthern defense walls of the fort. The fort doesn’t offer plots for caravans or motorhomes. Although the campsite is located within the city limits, it’s atmosphere is rural and rustic. While the city closed in on the fort over the course of 150 years, few things changed behind the moat surrounding the fort. In the process of renovating the fort and changing it’s defensive origin to a more hospitable purpose equipped to welcome this century’s visitor – hostel, campsite and lunchroom – we managed to preserve this special and historic atmosphere.
